Monk and Soldiers of the Devil's Stone near Lauter A military army once intended to besiege Schwarzenberg and had therefore gathered at the present Devil's Stone near Lauter. Here in the camp, everyone lived in luxury and revelry. One day, a monk from the Grünhain Monastery came along, carrying a candlestick to Schwarzenberg for repair. As his path led him through the camp, he was stopped by the soldiers and tempted to dance and gamble with them. His meager funds were soon gambled away, and he became so engrossed in his own pursuits that he sold the candlestick for cash. At that moment, the abbot of the monastery, who happened to be walking along the same path, came along and, seeing his fellow monk's behavior, tried to dissuade him from his godless ways with heartfelt words. ...
