Ponds are created when the snow melts in spring, when it rains heavily, when it is flooded or depending on the level of the groundwater. The pools are fed by rainwater and therefore have a strongly fluctuating water level. The forest pond is mostly ingrown by rushes and swamp plants, it forms the basis of life for a large number of insects, amphibians and animals that live in and around the forest pool.
