The reservoir was created in the 1930s and soon became a popular area for excursions. After numerous sludge removals, the Spree and the lake were separated from 2001 to prevent renewed siltation. The reservoir is now considered a local recreation center again. The entire environment has been redesigned and attracts thousands of guests every year. Hiking, Nordic walking, cycling on the Spreeradwanderweg, gondola rides, swimming or ice skating at your own risk are all possible. The beer garden at the reservoir (Tel. 035936 31141) or the restaurant at the reservoir (Tel. 035936 149931) provide for the physical well-being. Parking spaces on the B98 (pedestrians use the underpass under the main road) or at the end of Spreetalstraße. Physically handicapped people can easily experience the site with a wheelchair. From the reservoir, those interested can reach the forest stage at the foot of the Kälbersteine. The finest amateur theater is offered here from May to September. Very nicely located on the reservoir, the beer garden with good food and beer. You can comfortably go boating / canoeing here, or go on short hikes. The children are in good hands on the playground and you can enjoy your time in peace. Also very nice to reach via the bike path along the Spree. Simply nice for family outings.
