I was there about three weeks ago, it has a magic all of its own! The moated castle in the Rotenburg district of Schwarzenhasel, first mentioned in 1371 and still almost completely surrounded by a spring-fed moat, was built in 1698 by the noble von Trott family with two half-timbered floors above a late medieval base floor. After several changes of ownership, Edmund von Biedenfeld acquired the property in 1885 and arranged for the historicist conversion and expansion of the castle house. In 1897, the moated castle came into the possession of the Westphalian von Bodelschwingh family, who have now lived and managed the property in the fourth generation.

In the castle park there is a section of the city wall and a round tower that was built around 1400.

A once great building is in a pitiful state. One can only hope that at some point something will change for the better.
