To the right of the Carl Braun Hut, near the bench, a steep trail winds through the forest, amidst leaves and branches. If you don't stray from the trail (like I did 🙈), you'll emerge above the ICE bridge near Adelshausen.

The square where the bench is located is called Im Neuendorf - with a beautiful view of Spangenberg!

Well renovated watchtower, reminiscent of the past

The tower was part of the city fortifications and stood at the southeast corner of the city wall. The projecting stones facing the city supported the planks of the battlement behind the battlements. The guards could thus continue their walk along the city wall without having to enter the tower. The course and height of the wall are clearly visible here. The only access to the tower is at the height of this corridor. You enter a solid floor that has a hole in the middle. This hole was once the entrance to the prison, which is why the tower was also called the "Thieves' Tower".
