The castle was demolished in 1962 because it had fallen into disrepair during World War II and the GDR era, and it could not be rebuilt for financial reasons. This was a blow to Rügen's culture. The castle park, with its ancient trees and game reserve, the orangery, and the church, still exists.

At the end of May, we had the opportunity to attend the opening concert of the Putbus Festival at the theater. The Prussian Chamber Orchestra played a fantastic program, including a harp soloist. The acoustics of the incredibly charming little theater made this concert a truly impressive experience. So if a classical concert is scheduled during your visit to Putbus, be sure to attend.

The walk around Lake Wreechen is worthwhile because of the beautiful, tree-lined hiking trails, but also because of the information about the stays and works of Caspar David Friedrich.

In the shed there is a small exhibition on fishing and a model of the island of Vilm

A welcome covered rest area with a panoramic view of the lake. The explanatory panel next door (Caspar David Friedrich - Kasnevitz Painters' Trail, Station 3: View over Lake Wreecher See) looks very new. It vividly explains that the first drawing from Caspar David Friedrich's first trip to Rügen in 1801 depicts this very view, something unknown until 1998. And that's something, isn't it?
