The princely theater was built between 1819 and 1821 as a summer theater. Despite numerous renovations, much of the old building structure has been preserved, and the exterior and the spatial structures within the building have remained unchanged. The extensive and complex reconstruction of the theater from 1992 to 1998 has restored its old beauty. Today, the Putbus Theater is the oldest continuously operating theater in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and a historical theater of international importance with modern technical equipment and 250 seats.
