シュタットパルクは、街の城壁のすぐ前にあります。樹齢最大300年のシナノキやクリの木が育つ城壁や、市民庭園と合わせて、旧市街を囲む緑の輪を形成しています。かつては精巧な防御施設の一部であった、のどかなオベルトライヒもこれに含まれます。城壁の遊歩道からは、旧市街の家々の美しい景色が繰り返し見られます。

1964年6月17日、DDRにおける1953年6月17日の民衆蜂起10周年を記念して、アイヒスフェルト協会の連邦会議の機会に、ドゥーダーシュタットで「アイヒスフェルト分割済み / 決してない」という碑文が刻まれた漂礫岩が除幕されました。1994年に記念碑は移設され、碑文が変更されました。今日では「アイヒスフェルト / 分割不可能」となっています。さらに、ドゥーダーシュタットとヴォルビス/ハイルィゲンシュタットの二つの都市名が、有刺鉄線で石の上に分けられています。

Beautiful destination for a day trip

The Göttingen Kiessee is a 15-hectare lake on the southwestern outskirts of the city. Formed by gravel mining, it has become one of Göttingen's most important recreational areas. The approximately 2.5-kilometer-long lakeside path is popular with joggers, walkers, and anglers throughout the year. The lake is only one to two meters deep and, as a result, is threatened by algal blooms and accelerated silting. To improve the freshwater supply, an inlet was built in 2003 to divert water from the Leine River, which flows east of the lake, into the lake. From an ecological perspective, however, this measure is completely pointless, as intensive agriculture in the Leine catchment area washes large quantities of fertilizer into the river, and these nutrients further accelerate the silting of the Kiessee. The "Synagogue Memorial" stands on the site where the neo-Romanesque building of the Göttingen synagogue burned down during Kristallnacht in 1938. After a 32-year urban development gap, the city of Göttingen commissioned Corrado Cagli to design a memorial in 1970. The Italian artist with Jewish roots was one of the leading figures in Rome's cultural scene before and after World War II. His first German retrospective, which brought him to Göttingen in 1970, showcased a wide range of his work, from drawings, tapestries, and sculptural objects to monumental frescoes by the painter Cagli, but no free-standing works. Originally a polygonal tower on the Göttingen Wall, it served as a cannon emplacement. The tower at the confluence of the Leine Canal was used as a garden house from the first half of the 19th century onwards. It belonged to Johann Voß, a gardener in the "Oeconomic Garden" located between Turmstrasse and Hospitalstrasse. He rented the rooms to students as apartments, as was common practice for other garden houses outside the city gates. From spring to autumn 1833, Otto Graf von Bismarck (1815-1898) was its tenant. It is a legend that later emerged that he chose the quarters because he had been expelled from the city. The tower now houses a small exhibition on the life of Otto von Bismarck.
