Kerteminde North Beach | Funen's Best Beach The North Beach is the most popular beach in Kerteminde. People flock to the beach from near and far to enjoy the fresh seawater of the Great Belt. The beach is mainly sandy, while the beach further north, towards Hindsholmvej, is lined with beautiful villas. Grass and beach reeds grow there. The North Beach is a distinctive sandy beach with many sandbanks. This means that the water only gets deep further out from the beach. This makes the beach very child-friendly. Approximately in the middle of the beach is a parking lot and a kiosk selling various refreshments. In the southern part of the beach is a miniature golf course. There is also a bathing jetty, courts for beach volleyball and handball, and, of course, restrooms. St. Lawrence's Church is located in the middle of Kerteminde's market square. The nave of the three-aisled church is located under a massive roof structure. According to records, the church was built in 1476. Major structural changes were made in the 17th century – the church received a vault and the interior was renovated. On the south side of the choir is the burial chapel of the Iuel family; on the opposite wall is a plaque commemorating two of the church's pastors. There's no gravel path here, but a narrow paved road along the beach. You definitely can't ride a bike on the pebble beach!

Ulriksholm is a privately owned castle that formerly belonged to the illegitimate king's son, Ulrik Christian Gyldenløv. In 1616, King Christian IV purchased the main estate of Skinnerup at the foot of Kerteminde Nor. In 1632, the king decided to build new stately buildings as a residence for the illegitimate king's then two-year-old son, Ulrik Christian Gyldenløve. Therefore, the castle's name was changed to Ulriksholm. After the death of Christian IV, his lover and mother of Ulrik Christian Gyldenløve, Vibeke Kruse, fell into disgrace. After her death, Vibeke Kruse was buried on a poor farm outside the city walls of Copenhagen. However, Ulrik Christian Gyldenløve ensured that his mother's body was brought to Kølstrup Church. He himself died at the age of just 28 after a brave service in the Swedish War. The castle is now privately owned. The Amanda statue is the symbol of Kerteminde. It was created in 1954 by the artist Robert Lund Jensen and symbolizes the beautiful, graceful daughters of the town. The story of Amanda comes from a girl whose real name was Sophie Krag. Sophie was a young girl from Kerteminde who suffered a sad fate and died of an illness at the age of only 40. She was one of eight children of the watchmaker Edvard Krag and his wife Marie Catrine Ovesen Wittrock. At the age of 20, she traveled to Copenhagen to emulate her sister Augusta Møller and become an actress. She received a job as a revue actress at the Nørrebro Theater, was quickly accepted into the acting world, and became engaged to the writer Anton Melbye, who was ten years older. According to the story, she met an old acquaintance from Kerteminde, the law student Wilhelm Nielsen, with whom she began a flirtation despite their engagement. The end of the story was a tragic annulment of the engagement. The upper middle class was outraged, and a good friend of Anton's, the composer Axel Schwanenflügel, wrote the song "Harper i luften" (Harps in the Air) for the Winter Revue in 1893 – the famous song that begins with the line "Min Amanda var fra Kerteminde" (My Amanda was from Kerteminde). The town of Kerteminde has, of course, long since forgiven its "Amanda" for her unfaithful debauchery and erected a monument to her as a symbol of the beautiful and graceful daughters of Kerteminde, whom one simply cannot help but love. At Hverringe Estate, past and present, nature and culture, production and conservation come together. The history of Hverringe goes back several hundred years. In 1768, Hverringe became the owner's house. The current beautiful, three-winged building was built around 1790 by Hans Rudolph Iuel, who is best known for his efforts during the Napoleonic Wars, where he led an expedition against the English troops on Romsø in 1809. 100 Englishmen were taken prisoner of war and, for lack of better accommodation, imprisoned in Kerteminde Church. The winery is still owned by the Iuel-Reventlow family. Today, it is run as a modern, large-scale business specializing in grass seed. The winery is another major property owner on Hindsholm.
