Anne Hvide's Farm was built in the 1560s by the noblewoman Anne Hvide of Rødkilde, making it, along with the churches, the oldest building in Svendborg. In 1900, Svendborg Municipality took over the farm. Afterward, it became the treasurer's office and the seat of the tax assessment commission. By this time, some of the original buildings had already been demolished. For a time, it housed a city and county library and even a mayor's office. After a somewhat turbulent life, Anne Hvide's old house was handed over to the board of the Svendborg County Museum in 1912 in exchange for a thorough restoration. In 1915, Anne Hvide's Farm was converted into a museum. The Svendborg Museum was located here until 1974, when it moved to its current location in the old almshouse at Grubbemøllevej 13. For many years, Anne Hvide's farm was used for special exhibitions and Christmas events.
