Wilsum watermill

The Bronze Age farm is a prehistoric farmstead from the prehistoric Bronze Age 2200-800 BC. The impressive farmstead was reconstructed in close cooperation with the municipality of Uelsen, the Lower Saxony State Office for Monument Preservation and other partners. It offers insights into the life of our Bronze Age ancestors with their animals from a farm on the Riedberg south of Uelsen.

History The name Emmelkamp is still commonly used in the colloquial dialect today. The High German name Emlichheim is derived from the original Low German forms Emminchem or Emmenheim. Since the time of the Thirty Years' War, High German has been used for documents in the County of Bentheim. Officially, the name was thus translated from the previously used Low German into High German as Emlichheim. Due to the close cultural and economic ties with the Netherlands, Dutch was the common language of communication, church service, and writing, particularly in the Lower County, from the 16th century onward. Until the 1820s, Dutch was used as the primary language in the county's schools. The colloquial language was the local Low German dialect, which was strongly influenced by the Dutch written language.

Not far behind the border, in Mander (belongs to Vasse), is "Watermolen Bels". This former watermill is located (like Watermolen Frans about 400m away) on the Mosbeek. Watermolen Bels is also known as the “Pancake House”. With its cozy interior, it has been a popular destination since the mid-1960s, especially for cyclists. The house specialty is over 100 different types of pancakes. Some of the buildings date from the 18th century. In 1725 the property served as a paper factory and later as a grain mill. In 1962 it was finally restored and converted into a cozy restaurant in old Twent style.
