The Nordoe Inland Dunes are now a 407-hectare nature reserve and part of the National Natural Heritage. The area is characterized by a mix of diverse habitats: open sandy areas, heathlands, and wetlands. There are both pine-covered inland dunes and scrub-like oak woodlands. The Nordoe Inland Dunes are an important refuge for rare and endangered animal and plant species. The ecosystem depends on the nutrient-poor conditions and open landscape. To maintain these conditions, the area is now managed through extensive grazing with Galloways, Highland cattle, and Exmoor ponies.

Here at the lock there is a drinking water dispenser and enough space to rest and relax.

Very close to Wilster you have a very beautiful view of the Wilsterau. Here it flows gently meandering through a flat landscape with wide fields and meadows.

The cakes can be highly recommended!

A lovely café and restaurant called Zur Schleuse is on the way. It was fairly quiet due to the poor weather on June 6, 2024. It's bound to be busy here on nice summer days. The Stör was photographed from the top of the dike. The bascule bridge belongs to the lock.
