ヘーグバッハ湖は、1960年代半ばに隣接する高速道路建設のための砂利採取によって形成されました。1987年に現在の名前が定着する前は、アウトバーンバッガーゼーやナウハイマー・ヴァルトゼーなど、湖には6つの異なる名称が使われていました。現在、この湖は洪水調整池および保養地として利用されています。ここでは水泳は許可されていませんが、湖の周りを一周することは一年中価値があります。特に、多様な鳥類はここで賞賛に値します。
