Beautiful area, just lovely to walk along here.

Beautiful watering hole, with clucking ducks and croaking frogs. Nature still seems content here. A nice place to have a picnic.

Very beautiful natural lake intended as a retreat for any creature... Bathing is prohibited, but there are other bathing opportunities.

The restaurant "Ahoi - Steffen Henssler" with outdoor dining is right on the lake. https://www.ahoisteffenhenssler.de/filiale/ahoi-hildesheim

As early as 1937, the idea of damming up a flood-leveling reservoir in the meadows along the road to Ochtersum had been considered. In the 1960s, the idea of not damming up the lake, but digging it up and extracting gravel at the same time, caught on. From the groundbreaking ceremony in January 1966 to the inauguration in 1974, the Hildesheim companies Kanngiesser and Mölders were able to haul over 700,000 cubic meters of gravel. In this way, a stately water surface of almost 100,000 square meters was created on the old Müllerwiese. "With the economic use of the gravel yield, we were able to create this wonderful leisure facility without having to use our taxpayers' money for it," says the then city director Schöne with satisfaction. So it's no wonder that more than 25,000 Hildesheimers followed the invitation of the city administration and enthusiastically took possession of "their" lake on May 26, 1974. Every year the water is drained from the former fish pond. ... ... After the spawning and breeding season, the water is "drained in a throttled manner" in order to reduce the nutrient content, promote the decomposition of the sludge and slow down the reefing of the pond. Regular draining also prevents the formation of large fish stocks, which are considered predators of endangered dragonfly and amphibian species. For example, the strictly protected crested newt, the largest domestic newt species, resides there. (Hildesheimer Allgemeine Zeitung, October 25th, 2021)
