Regular draining also prevents the formation of large fish stocks, which are considered predators of endangered dragonfly and amphibian species. For example, the strictly protected crested newt, the largest domestic newt species, resides there.

The Giesener ponds were created in the 18th century by the episcopal estate Steuerwald in Hildesheim for fish farming and today belong to the "Haseder Busch, Giesener Berge, Gallberg, Finkenberg nature reserve". Generations of Giesenern learned to swim in the ponds or skated on them. In the meantime, they are drained for maintenance in winter and only flooded again in spring.

ハイキング
Beautiful watering hole, with clucking ducks and croaking frogs. Nature still seems content here. A nice place to have a picnic.
