A small update on the ferry. The old ferry is currently still running, but this will soon be replaced by a solar ferry. The price of the ferry with a bicycle has increased to 1.50 euros. Still reasonable, in my opinion.

When looking over the Schlei, the St. Petri Cathedral of Schleswig can always be seen. Beautiful bike and hiking trails along the Schlei.

The bridge is currently not passable: Information from the train to the Lindaunisbrücke: The bridge has been closed to passers-by since March 6, 2023. In the period that follows, we dismantle the folding part and set up the temporary bridge for pedestrians and cyclists. It is planned to complete this work in Dec. 2023. A port like in a picture book, at least from the point of view of a landlubber. A relaxed view of the harbor with sailing ships and yachts from the good dining locations or from the ice cream parlor with very tasty ice cream. A detour to the romantic district of Holm is also worthwhile.

The monument protection for the 1924 bascule bridge, on which cars and trains shared a lane, was lifted. This made the bridge 99 years old. The new building is in the same place.

Like so many things on the Schlei, the name of the fishing settlement in Schleswig comes from the Danish language, because “Holm” means “small island” in Danish usage. The Holm was created around the year 1,000 and was separated from the mainland by the Holmer Noor until the 20th century. All houses were built directly on the water to ensure optimal fish processing. Today the Holm is a district of the city of Schleswig and is connected to the mainland.
