From here you can see the village of Schanze.

This cozy inn is located in the small village of Schanze, right next to the Kyrill Trail. You can stay overnight here during your hike, or simply take a break to recharge. The beer garden opposite the inn is a particularly good place to do this. You won't find much traffic here: the road practically ends here. We're closed on Mondays, but our guests are of course offered something to eat. Just get off and push. Maybe rest for a while by the Eder and enjoy the beautiful nature.

Schanze, Schanze, Schanze – a must-see whenever you're in Schmallenberg. Located on the Rothaarsteig trail, on the ridge that forms a broad, hilly plateau here. A place reached by a road that ends there (the mountainous counterpart to Latrop). A small town, touristy yes, but pleasantly so, a hiker's and cyclist's haven. Excellent food, naturally hiker- and cyclist-friendly. The panoramic views of the Schmallenberg Sauerland region are absolutely stunning, and some accommodations offer views of the valley, whether that of Latrop or those to the south.

Friends of cycling, the high point of the Schanze even made it into the pass lexicon of quäldich.de, meaning: it doesn't get more "alpine" than this in North Rhine-Westphalia. Let's stay geologically correct and use the more pleasant term "Variscan." This Variscan landscape could present itself to the cheerful cyclist in all its panorama, if it weren't for the need to brake and the steep, 4km climb. Definitely a road bike route. Otherwise, a classic climb for all crossings of the Rothaarkamm. Traffic is rather light, but there are plenty of non-locals who calmly ride behind you.
