🏰 Thurant Castle near Alken on the Moselle🏰 It is located in the Mayen-Koblenz district in Rhineland-Palatinate. The imposing castle complex, built in 1197⛪️, is one of the oldest and best-preserved hilltop castles on the Moselle. It was named in memory of the unsuccessful siege of the Syrian fortress "Thuron". The castle - the only double castle on the Moselle - is privately owned, but can be visited all year round for a fee💰. Doors and arches, battlements and wooden walkways can be discovered on the paths in the castle. There is also a hunting room, a small chapel worth seeing, a wine cellar with barrels and a dungeon to marvel at. The climb to the platform of the Cologne Tower is worthwhile. At the top there is a magnificent view over the courtyards, vineyards and the Moselle. There are benches in cosy niches scattered throughout the courtyards. 🍴The castle kiosk (with a cosy back room) offers smaller dishes such as sausages and potato salad🍽.
