Østerstrand is Fredericia's largest beach and has been nominated several times as Denmark's best beach. Located near the Little Belt, this beach is an ideal place to relax and offers everything you need for a perfect day out. The wide, sandy beach provides excellent swimming opportunities, either from the water or from the large, circular pier in the center. Østerstrand is a family-friendly beach with good restroom and changing facilities. Toilets and showers are available, and the restroom building also includes a family changing room with showers. The beach area features pathways and numerous options for a comfortable stay. Several seating and loungers, as well as long tables, are available for beachgoers. Some of the long tables have a stone surface, making it safe to use disposable barbecues. There are also several fire pits along the beach that are free to use. https://www.visitfredericia.de/tourist/reise-planen/osterstrand-gdk608931

Fredericia's ramparts have six openings connecting the city center with the surrounding area, but only three of them have actual gates: Danmarks Port, Prinsens Port, and Nørre Port. Prinsens Port is the oldest of the gates, dating back to 1753 in its current design. When the yellow, brick gate was built in 1753, it replaced an earlier wooden gate. Prinsens Port was designed by the officer and military architect Samuel Christoph Gedde. https://www.visitfredericia.de/tourist/reise-planen/die-tore-von-fredericia-gdk1093915

Danmarks Port, the newest gate of the city walls, dates from 1924 and was also designed in the Neoclassical style by architect Oscar Gundlach-Pedersen. Besides the fact that Nørre Port and Danmarks Port are based on the same architectural style and were designed by the same architect, there are also clear visual parallels in the round shape of the arch and the two smaller, separate arches for pedestrians that symmetrically flank the main passageway. However, Nørre Port is an enclosed gate, while Danmarks Port has no "roof" and instead consists of freestanding walls with columned arches. https://www.visitfredericia.de/tourist/reise-planen/die-tore-von-fredericia-gdk1093915

Fredericia's Old Harbor (Gammel Havn) is a historic harbor area in the city center, now used as a marina and recreational area. It borders the new Kanalbyen district, which is currently under development and already features the first canals, sports facilities, and urban gardens. Visitors can moor their boats here and enjoy the proximity to restaurants and shops. The harbor is particularly busy during the summer months, but there are only a limited number of berths.

The White Water Tower in Fredericia is one of the city's landmarks and offers fantastic views of the Little Belt. Originally a water reservoir, it was built centrally on Fredericia's city walls. Today, it serves as a viewpoint from which you can admire the city and its surroundings from a height of 44 meters. A spiral staircase leads to the roof terrace, where tables and benches invite you to linger. There is also an exhibition about Fredericia's historical buildings – many of which are visible from the top of the tower. Access to the tower is via a digital payment system, which has replaced the previous key rental system. Admission costs 20 DKK per person; children under 10 years of age are admitted free of charge.

The Hannerup Skov in southern Denmark is an idyllic forest area that invites you to take long walks and hikes. Particularly attractive are the many small paths that lead through the dense forest and repeatedly reveal small clearings and hidden ponds. The peace and seclusion of the forest offer a welcome break from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

A safe bathing experience On Østerstrand you will find the Mermaid Pipes bathing facility, the world's first bathing facility for people with visual impairments. This facility was created as a collaboration between the municipality of Fredericia and the Danish Blind Association, and was originally intended for people with visual impairments and blind people. The facility can, however, be used by anyone who wants to bathe in an extra safe way. The design of the facility The so-called Mermaid Pipes are a series of long steel poles that form a snail pattern above and below the water. A rope is attached between each steel pole, which guides bathers safely through the water and back to the beach. The Mermaid Pipes therefore provide orientation in the water and enable people with visual impairments to experience the sea and bathing in a safe way.
