Just a stone's throw from the last houses in the village of Gänserndorf, we come across a small sacred monument. The wooden crucifix is located in an area enclosed on three sides by a wooden fence, with an open fourth side inviting passersby to approach. The name "Hubertus Cross" already indicates its origin, as Saint Hubertus is known primarily as the patron saint of hunters and marksmen: It was donated in 1969 by the Gänserndorf Hunting Society, which had it renovated in 2005.

The patronage of this chapel takes us far back to the time of early Christianity, specifically the fourth century. With Monica (also spelled MONICA), the Church honors, above all, a mother as a saint whose son, Augustine, initially led a life entirely unoriented toward Christianity, but later found faith and became not only a bishop but even one of the great Doctors of the Church. In particular, her constancy, sustained by motherly love, in trusting prayer to God—which, although seemingly hopeless for a long time, ultimately bore rich fruit—is shown to us in her person as a Christian example.
