Bench with a View A bench with an information board directly on Bäderstraße invites you to linger – with a sweeping view of the Baltic Sea, where sky and sea merge, and history is palpably close.

The fate of the frigate: The approximately 40-meter-long Swedish frigate "Hedvig Sophia" sank on the beach at Schwedeneck in 1715. The frigate, equipped with 46 cannons, was named after a sister of King Charles XII. The war: That year, the Great Northern War escalated on the Baltic coast of Schleswig-Holstein: Danish, Hanoverian, and Russian forces attempted to end Swedish supremacy in the Baltic Sea. Today: Remains of the wreck and the legendary Swedish Cemetery commemorate this chapter of Baltic Sea history. Parts of the wreck are said to lie on the seabed off Schwedeneck today – it is considered one of the most famous historical shipwrecks in Kiel Bay.

This very well-paved path is inaccessible to motorists and is a good alternative to the cycle path directly along the B76, although it is significantly hillier.
