The municipality of Keutschach am See is located in the natural four-lake valley (Rauschelesee, Keutschacher See, Hafnersee and Baßgeigensee).

The scenic backdrop formed by the Drau Glacier around Carinthia's sixth-largest lake is stunning. Café Sunseit'n is inconspicuously located in a small bay to the east, amidst a small belt of reeds. The fact that this is a truly wonderful place to stay was already known around 6,000 years ago, when a pile-dwelling settlement was built here during the Neolithic period. It has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2011.

Family friendliness is particularly important in the Keutschach valley. A particularly popular children's destination is the "Magic Forest Rauschelesee".

In 1974 a Neolithic stilt house was discovered on the central shoal of the lake. It is dated in the context of the Mondsee culture in the Salzkammergut. This wet soil settlement Hafnersee is under monument protection.

With an area of 1.32 km², it is the sixth largest of the Carinthian lakes. In 1864, Ferdinand von Hochstetter discovered a pile dwelling settlement from the Neolithic Age, which has been part of the UNESCO World Heritage Prehistoric Pile Dwellings around the Alps since 2011
