The Negratín reservoir was inaugurated in 1984 and its construction meant the disappearance of the town of Las Juntas and the old spa of Zujar, as well as various farmhouses that remained under the waters of the reservoir. The Negratín reservoir is the second largest reservoir in the Autonomous Community of Andalusia, with more than 567 Hm3.

In the river orchards, below the castle, is the restored Freila laundry, connected to a well with two watercourses and a trough. It is of indeterminate chronology and consists of seven depressions, a water intake channel and a large depression. Laundries like this also had a social function: they served as a place of conviviality and meeting for the women of the town.
