The marble monument, dedicated to Christopher Columbus (Genoa 1451 - Valladolid 1506), was created by the master marble workers Repetto di Lavagna based on a design by the Lombard sculptor Odoardo Tabacchi (Valganna 1831 - Milan 1905) on the occasion of the Colombian celebrations of 1892.
