Well-preserved medieval castle at the foot of the Tollense 🙏

The Veste Landskron is a little off the beaten path on a single-lane country road. But a visit is absolutely worth it, because the ruins are comparatively very well preserved. A club takes care of the maintenance and does a great job! The castle ruins are very winding and resemble an adventure playground. There is something new to discover around every corner and one intention is more beautiful than the other. Absolutely worth seeing! 💚

The Janow manor was mentioned in a document in 1267. From 1877 onwards, the new representative manor house was built in the neoclassical style with a four-story tower that no longer exists today.

The castle is located near the original border between Mecklenburg and Western Pomerania, which ran a few kilometers south and east at the Kleiner and Großer Landgraben. It was one of a series of fortifications that protected the crossings over the Tollense between Altentreptow and Demmin (Broock, Burg Osten, Haus Demmin). The Klempenow Church, sometimes also referred to as a chapel, is a half-timbered building from 1690 with a tower with a pyramid roof. In 1997-2000, after a long period of closure, the church was extensively renovated, although it was left in a slightly crooked position.
