Almost a hundred years ago there was a murderous electric wire barrier on the border between Belgium and the Netherlands: the 'death wire'. This horrific obstacle from the First World War was erected by the German army in 1915 on the border between occupied Belgium and neutral Netherlands. The electric current was no less than two thousand volts. The Dead Wire was on Belgian territory, from the Zwin to almost Aachen. The death line did not follow the border very precisely everywhere. The 450-kilometer-long, capricious national border was greatly shortened, as a result of which large stretches of Belgian territory were placed between the Dead Wire and the strictly guarded Dutch border. Why the death thread was established, what it looked like, how it was guarded, how you could or could not legally cross the thread and especially what the consequences were for the border residents

Very nice area for cycling. Busy during the holidays / weekends with day trippers, but that's because of the campsite and the holiday park

Nice to look at, and I could also hide from the rain :)
