The Mariaort Bridge over the Danube is a steel girder structure - a so-called "truss bridge with an overhead carriageway" and is 198.20 meters long. On the Regensburg side there is the porch over the valley floodplain, a bridge made of round arches. Together they span around 550 meters.
Construction of the bridge began in 1870. In October 1870, the pillars for the bridge in the Danube were built up and the construction workers could begin assembling the iron lattice structure of the bridge. On October 10, 1871, a serious accident occurred during construction work: a 28-meter-long support section between the first and second pillars on the Mariaort side fell into the Danube, killing six workers. The accident delayed the completion of the railway bridge by more than a year. The Nuremberg-Regensburg railway line was opened in three stages: On December 1, 1871, the Nuremberg – Neumarkt section was inaugurated and on May 15, 1873, the route continued to Seubersdorf. Finally, on July 1, 1873, the last, 44 km long stretch to Regensburg main station including the Mariaort railway bridge.

The Mariaort railway bridge carries the Regensburg-Nuremberg railway line between the village of Mariaort in the municipality of Sinzing and Regensburg over the Danube. A building worth seeing with a long history.
