The Kohlbachhaus, owned by the House of Saxe-Weimar until the end of World War I, later owned by the state of Thuringia and devastated after the end of World War II.
Rebuilt in the 1950s and initially used by the forestry service, it was in a restricted area from 1961 onwards and was only used for hunting by border troops and the state security service. After reunification, the building was renovated again.
Today, the Kohlbachhaus is owned by the Thuringia Forestry Office and is used for staff meetings, work accommodation, as a hunting lodge and for events with forestry relevance.
