    A small lake has been created in the fenced-in pit, which has steep edges in places. The area is completely covered with vegetation, and the greywacke sandstone that is exposed is only rarely still visible.

    The stones quarried here in the Middle Ages were used to build the city wall and occasionally for residential buildings. In 1129, King Lothar III confirmed the right of Duisburg citizens to collect stones in the city forest free of charge. In the middle of the 19th century, stones were systematically quarried on the quarry path. The quarry has been closed since 1874.
