St. Cecilia Church + Gatehouse - Heusenstamm 🚴‍♂️

It is truly a gem, the parish church of St. Cecilia, which has made Heusenstamm famous far beyond the borders of the Offenbach district. After all, it's not for nothing that this Catholic church is called the most beautiful of its kind in Hesse. The church was built from 1739 to 1741 as a Catholic burial church for the Heusenstamm branch of the Counts of Schönborn.🚴‍♂️

The gatehouse is a triumphal arch-like structure and stands at the southern entrance to the old town. In 1764, Emperor Franz I, along with his son Josef, visited the Heusenstamm castle of Count Eugen von Schönborn for seven days, who had the gate built to commemorate this memorable event. Incidentally, the last execution took place in Heusenstamm that same year: the thief had stolen a gold watch from one of the emperor's generals...🚴‍♂️
