The Reitbrooker mill is one of nine preserved windmills in the Hamburg area and the only one that still has its original blades. Overall, it is in good condition and is considered the symbol of Reitbrook.
Nowadays the mill is used by a trading company for animal feed and horticultural supplies, which also grinds grain products (electrically) in it.

The Reitbrooker Mill was built in 1870 as a grist mill. It is one of the last Dutch windmills (gallery, rotating cap) in the Hamburger Marsch, which was introduced here at the beginning of the 17th century. At this point there was already a windmill for grinding, which the owner of the Reitbrooker Fährhof, Odemann, had built when he received the mill rights in 1773.

1837-54 it belonged to the miller Friedrich Lichtwark, whose house next to it is still preserved. Here the son Alfred Lichtwark (born November 14, 1852 in Hamburg-Reitbrook; † January 13, 1914 in Hamburg) grew up. He had been director of the Hamburger Kunsthalle since 1886.
In 1870 the mill burned down once. The current mill was in operation until 1941, with an electric motor since the 1920s.

The gallery dutchman from 1873 is the only Hamburg mill to have windmill wings that are true to the original and today houses a feed and fertilizer business. The inside of the mill can be visited during opening hours.
