The Dārzu Street Bridge has long connected the right and left banks of the city, serving as a connecting node between the old and new parts of the city. Photographs from the early 20th century show a wooden bridge. In the early 1930s, ice carried by the river broke it, so a new wooden bridge was built. The bridge, which was renovated during the war, was bombed and rebuilt again.
