The runestones were found in 1875, engraved side down, in a field in Attmarby and later erected next to Attmar Church.
The name Häkon is quite common in runic inscriptions. Skygne, on the other hand, is only known from this engraving, but appears as a personal epithet meaning 'the sharp-sighted one' in Western Norway.
The female name Altrud is also found on the runestone in Berga, Njurunda municipality. Otherwise, it is unknown.
It is striking how sparsely the runes are carved in the left loop, which contains the prayer, while they are closely spaced in the right loop. The rune shapes also differ slightly between the two loops.
Perhaps they were made by two different stonemasons.
