The origins and development of the town of Löwitz near Anklam are inextricably linked to the history of the von Schwerin family. Löwitz was owned by this noble family, which had a wide range of branches throughout Western Pomerania, from 1533 until its expulsion and expropriation following World War II, and is thus considered one of the oldest family estates. Hans Graf von Schwerin had the manor house built around 1880 in the Neo-Renaissance style, although some parts of the building were older. Part of the manor house was demolished during the GDR era because it had fallen into ruin due to a lack of maintenance.
