Built around 100 AD by the Romans, it housed about 20,000 spectators. Until the beginning of the 5th century, it was used as a theater and arena. After that, how many antique buildings were abused in the Middle Ages as a quarry.

Today you can explore the amphitheater on your own (4 € for adults):
    April - September: daily 9am - 6pm
    October and March: daily 9am - 5pm
    November - February: daily 9am - 4pm

But the amphitheater is not just a museum. Even today there are concerts or performances in the summer months. In addition, the Gladiator School trains Trier there and shows how it had probably started there in the early years. All in all, the amphitheater is still in operation after more than two thousand years!

After its completion in the 2nd century, the Roman amphitheater in Trier offered space for around 20,000 visitors.
Since 1986 it has been part of the UNESCO World Heritage "Roman Monuments, Cathedral and Church of Our Lady in Trier".
