The Gothic church on the island of Wolin was first mentioned in 1288. The church was rebuilt several times, was almost completely destroyed during World War II, and later rebuilt.

The parish church of St. Nicholas the Bishop is located in Wolin, ul. Kościelna. The Dziwna River flows approximately 300 meters from the church.

Wolin was the first bishopric established during the Christianization process. The bishopric was confirmed in 1124 and relocated to Kamień Pomorski in 1160. The medieval church is the only one of the three that survived in Wolin to this day. The first references date back to 1288. Unfortunately, it is not possible to know exactly what the original church looked like. After another reconstruction in the 14th century, all that is known is that the building had three naves, a square floor plan, and a western tower. It is also known that the pseudo-basilica was rebuilt in the 15th century after a construction disaster. The church was rebuilt again in the 19th century, survived the wars, and has remained in Wolin to this day.
However, two historic churches: St. George's and St. Nicholas's, were severely damaged during the war. The town was 70% destroyed. The communist authorities demolished St. George's Church, leaving St. Nicholas's standing. The churches were not handed over to the church authorities until May 31, 1988. Planning, construction, and conservation work then began. The church was opened for use in 1999. In the presbytery are a tall crucifix, a figure of the risen Jesus, and a tabernacle surrounded by ears of grain and a vine. Stations of the Cross hang on the walls.
