On July 5, 1942, the first groups of German motorcyclists appeared. They rode along the road towards Ostrogozhsk, without stopping at the farm. A couple of days later, columns of fascist troops went along the road. They were mainly Italian and Hungarian formations. The main part passed through the village of Krasnoye from the direction of Belgorod, and also through the village of Repyevka, but less. Both streams united north of Svistovka, and went to the Don. In the village of Krasnoye, the Germans founded an administration, where the burgomaster of the occupied region was located. Proclamations were scattered around the settlements. Here are some points from its text. "The United Army has occupied this area and, in order to ensure order in this territory, I order: ... No resident has the right to leave the city or village without special permission. Permission is given by the local Hungarian commandant. Persons who leave the city without permission will be considered partisans and hanged. ... 6. Any murder or attempt to murder Hungarian soldiers will be punishable by death. In addition, for each soldier killed, 100 residents taken hostage will be shot, and the village will be burned. ... 10. The civilian population is prohibited from using wells intended for soldiers and marked with special signs, as well as from approaching wells at close range. Persons found near wells will be shot. -- Hungarian Commandant."
On July 12, 1942, a German armored personnel carrier flew into the streets of the Krasnaya Levada farm. Raising clouds of dust and scaring the population, it turned onto a street located on the shore of a pond. The fascists noticed two Red Army soldiers who were making their way along the ravine to their own, to the east. The Red Army soldiers ran up the slope of the ravine through the old Levadovskoye cemetery and had almost reached the wheat field, where they could have easily gone further, but machine gun fire caught up with them. In the evening, Dmitry Fyodorovich Shatov harnessed a horse and brought their bodies to the farm, where they were buried - at the beginning of the ravine.
