Fascinating and terrifying at the same time, you can find it just a few meters further in the forest from the edge of the path.

Until the 1970s clearly visible, but now hidden in the forest above Lippoldsberg (opposite Hof Eichhof) are three former bunker tanks for methanol.
In 1937, work began there on a Paraxol GmbH plant, a subsidiary of the Degussa Group. In the plant pentaerythritol should be prepared as a precursor for powder and explosives. The property is divided into two separate areas. In the Pfeiffengrund the production area with numerous buildings developed. West of the Eichholzhof a separate section with the large bunkered tanks has been built. In the autumn of 1941, the construction was completed, but the operation was initially until the late summer of 1944 broke. On September 2, 1944, the plant finally began production, producing around 320 t pentaerythritol per month, which corresponded to approximately ¼ of the total production volume in the German Reich. Amongst others, this substance was processed with nitric acid by nitric acid from Dynamit AG in the plants Troisdorf, Krümmel and Wolfratshausen to nitropenta, which was filled into ammunition pods at the Polte plant in Duderstadt.
On April 8, 1945, US troops reached Lippoldsberg and occupied the factory.

The Allies had the factory dismantled after the war, the large methanol bunker were blown up. By contrast, the buildings in the production area largely remained stationary. In the post-war period, the facility was converted into a sanatorium and today, today the "Clinic and Rehabilitation Center Lippoldsberg GmbH" users of the property.

On the clinic property various buildings of the Paraxol factory are preserved, some hardly changed, but most of them rebuilt.
