The Trinity Church in the village of Karacharovo (now a district of Murom) was built in 1828, on the high bank of the Oka. Not far from it, closer to the river, there is a holy spring, which, according to legend, gushed out at the place where the heroic horse Ilya Muromets "galloped". According to local legend, the first wooden church to be built on this site was one for which Ilya Muromets himself brought three huge bog oaks, fished out of the Oka, to the shore. Among the owners of the village of Karacharovo were many noble families: the princes Cherkassky, Naryshkin, counts Sheremetev and Razumovsky. Under the latter, the Trinity Church was built in stone. Before that, there were two wooden churches in the village - the Life-Giving Trinity and St. Nicholas the Wonderworker.
