The Fechelenne Water Machine (or Sommière Water Machine) is a site consisting of a pumping station, operated from 1897 and which supplied drinking water to the villages of Sommière and Haut-le-Wastia, then Waulsort (1922) and Bouvignes-sur-Meuse (1955). This water comes from the Sommière spring (Fechelenne). From 1965, the old machinery was abandoned in favor of the installation of electric pumps. Since 2009, a team of volunteers has been working to renovate this hydraulic heritage. This installation is composed of pumps on either side of a paddle wheel, driven by the current of the Flavion. The paddle wheel, made of steel and with a diameter of 5.30 meters, used the energy available from a waterfall created on the Flavion stream. It powered two pumps that pumped approximately 4 cubic meters of water per hour to the Sommière plateau, two kilometers away, bridging a drop of more than 100 meters. In 2017, a model illustrating the operation of this machine was created.
It is on display at the Onhaye municipal administration, rue Albert Martin 3. Source: sitytrail.com
