The large stele at the Eisenhütte dam was re-erected in May 2025 and is intended to commemorate the former St. Michaelis Ironworks. This ironworks used to be located a few hundred meters further on the other side of the road (from 1729 to 1860). Later, the site was first home to a grain mill, and finally to a sawmill powered by a waterwheel in the Aa River. The farming community/Hook in the "tri-border area" of Liedern-Lowick-Spork, which emerged from workers' houses and a small chapel after the foundry was founded, was called "Iserhütt" (= ironworks). The name of this farming community/Hook is written on the stele in several languages: Iserhütt, Eisenhütte, Ijzerhut

The large landmark/stele, which clearly marks the actual site of the former Michalis Hut for all visitors, is now finally in place at the dam. This six-meter-high stele made of stainless steel is visible from afar.
It's beautifully done. One side shows "Iserhütt" in flat relief, and the other side reads "Eisenhütte."

It's worth getting off here and looking around.
