Here in the Hatzbach Forest, on the historic Butterweg from Erksdorf and Hatzbach to Kassel, there is a small refuge, the Mooshäuschen.
A popular photo opportunity for many hikers. Many wonder about the peculiar architectural style of the moss house. The old moss house was built by forest workers and soldiers from Treysa in the form of a Harz coal-fired hut and was probably the oldest refuge in the Hatzbach forest. Due to its age and construction, it was no longer possible to maintain the moss house in 2017. It had to be torn down. Many hikers and walkers missed the moss house with its remarkable architectural style. That is why it was rebuilt in this architectural style by many voluntary helpers with financial support from the city of Stadtallendorf, the Mengsberg Home and Improvement Association and the Hatzbachtal hiking friends.
