At the end of basalt mining in Oberriedenberg/Rhön, two small ponds were created in front of a steep cliff near the cafeteria building to provide undisturbed spawning grounds for the amphibians frequently observed during the mining season. The area is owned by the Bad Kissingen district, and the BN district group took over its management about 40 years ago.
