At 511 meters, the Birkenkopf, along with the Bernhartshöhe, is one of the highest elevations in the Stuttgart city area. From here, visitors not only enjoy a fantastic view of the valley, but also experience a piece of history.

When locals talk about the Birkenkopf, they usually call it "Monte Scherbelino" (Mount Shard). And visitors will quickly realize that "Scherbenberg" (Shard Mountain) is an apt name, especially once they reach the summit: gray rubble and remnants of facades are piled everywhere, with greenery pushing through the cracks.
