Lampertheim Cathedral 🚴♂️The Lampertheim Cathedral (also known as the "Cathedral of the Ried") is the church of the Protestant St. Luke's Parish in Lampertheim and the town's landmark.
Lampertheim belonged to the Diocese of Worms until 1803, but from 1386 to 1705 it was pledged to the Counts Palatine of Heidelberg and Mannheim. The Reformation was introduced by the Electors Palatinate Frederick II, Ottheinrich, and Frederick III around 1540. After Catholicism was reinstated in Lampertheim in 1682, Lampertheim's St. Andrew's Church served both denominations for worship. During this time, the Protestant congregation grew, so that the desire for its own church building arose. In 1857, the St. Andrew's Church, which was in use, was given to the Catholic congregation, and the Protestant congregation built its own church building in Lampertheim in 1863. In 1944, the nave was destroyed by a bomb. Only the main tower and the two west towers remained largely undamaged. Reconstruction began in 1955. The nave, unlike the original structure, was not built as a three-aisled church, but as a hall church (wall-pillared hall) with suggested side aisles and pointed barrel vaults. The church was re-consecrated in 1956. The southern west tower, which had been severely damaged during the war, was not rebuilt until 1994. Lampertheim Cathedral is built in the neo-Gothic style. The nave is 23 m high. The choir is flanked by two 37 m high west towers. The main tower is 60 m high. The church is 55 m long and 20 m wide. 🚴♂️de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Domkirche_Lampertheim
