The path runs through the bucolic meadows of the Veiga Cimera and changes course on a steep slope up a hill to jump a hill and “fly” over the Veigas de Penouta, at the head of the Puerto valley, and continue in search of the Collada de las Mozarras and the first view of the proud and powerful silhouette of the Cornón peak. The path runs through the solitary pastoral valley of the Mozarras, in Leonese territory, and crosses a curious plateau covered by unique carpets of creeping junipers to the base of the main Cornón massif. In this area there are abundant traces of cattle and other mountain paths that can mislead and it is advisable to be aware of the orientation. And when it is covered in snow there are few references to follow the layout of the short-distance path. The final section through the Alto del Barroso is the hardest and steepest part, especially when there is ice or hard snow in the shady areas. At the Bobia del Barroso pass, there are signs for the mountain route from Lumajo. The coloured markings of the PR-AS 10 indicate the path to the small hill (2,060 m) that separates the Cornón (2,188 m) from the Pico Asta (2,080 m). The final slope is known as “the Cornón staircase” due to the steep gradient and the dizzying atmosphere. In winter and early spring, ice patches and hard snow may appear, making the use of crampons and an ice axe essential. The mountain pyramid is a beautiful geological structure made of white, pink, ochre and other mineral-coloured quartzites that give the summit a special beauty. The panoramic view covers the peaks of Somiedo, the valleys of Babia Alta and the reliefs of the four regions of the Western Leonese Mountains.
