In 1690 the Hirschhorn Jews were given permission to set up a cemetery on a former manorial site. Due to the economic hardship at the time as a result of the War of the Palatinate Succession, the cemetery does not seem to have been established until between 1697 and 1703. In addition to the Hirschhorn Jews, Jews from neighboring places were also buried here.Over 200 tombstones, the oldest from 1729, the youngest from 1936, have been preserved. The often beautifully curved stones are kept rather simple, some also have a tendril or flower decoration, a few additional symbols that were often used on Jewish gravestones.Unfortunately, the Hirschhorn cemetery, which was already damaged in the 19th century, was desecrated during the Nazi era. Today it is again set up in a dignified setting and can be viewed from the outside.Source: hirschhorn.de
