The roundabout island is equipped with a drilling tower, which represents the oil history of Geeste. The symbols of the drilling tower explain the characteristics of the municipality of Geeste and represent the districts. The cross-plough symbol stands for the faith of the people, which is also used by the Catholic rural youth in Dalum, Geeste and Hesepe. The Lower Saxony Bridge serves as a connection over the Ems between the western and eastern districts. Another image is the Mammoth deep plough, which represents the cultivation of the Emsland moorland and thus the economic progress of the region. In addition, the Geeste coat of arms represents the municipality in general.

For further explanation, an information board has been set up at the roundabout. It provides information about the oil history of the municipality of Geeste.

The first traces of oil in the region were found in the middle of the 19th century - and that was more of an incident: Coal was actually supposed to be mined in this area. But instead of coal, asphaltite was discovered, resinous oil that had risen from the depths. It took some time, however, before the oil started flowing: after several unsuccessful drilling attempts in the region, an oil deposit was discovered here in Geeste-Dalum in 1942 and the first cubic meter of oil was extracted. With the end of the Second World War, the search for oil picked up speed: a total of eleven oil production sites were developed in the region. In the Oil and Natural Gas Museum in Twist, visitors can learn all about the history of oil and natural gas production in Emsland. The area around Dalum was also known as "Little Texas" in the 1950s.
