August Picht began producing genuine Nordhausen brandy and liqueurs at Lohmarkt No. 5 in Nordhausen. The "Harzer Grubenlicht" brand was created in the early 1930s.

In a conversation with a long-serving Harz miner, he feared that the Harz ore mining industry could be closed and that the faithful light, the mine light, would go out forever. To prevent this from happening, August Picht created the liquid "Harzer Grubenlicht".

We always want to remain true to this tradition that has been passed down through generations. Today, millions of bottles of "Harzer Grubenlicht" are lit, carefully made from 48 different herbs from all over the world according to an old family recipe.
