The Kermeter tunnel was built at the beginning of the 20th century and directs the water from the Urftsee into the power station near Heimbach-Hasenfeld, where electricity is still generated from hydropower today. Here you can see the above-ground valve house, which dates back to 1905, but has since been replaced by a modern valve.

The Heimbach power plant [komoot.de/highlight/176913] is supplied with water from the Urftsee through the Kermeter tunnel. At the maximum water level in the Urftsee, the drop of the water reaches 110 m up to the turbines, an unusually high potential in the low mountain range.More info: de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kermeterstollen
